It may sound silly, but piecing has just been so much fun since I got my Featherweight. I'd been using my Mom's newer plastic Singer beforehand. She's just so nifty to sew with! Sometimes I just see her sitting there and get the unshakable urge to settle in and make her purr.

Next to the rotary cutter/mat, I so agree w/#2 & 3 Martina - I just want to enjoy quilting & find it is relaxing, especially thinking of the person(s) I might be doing a particular project for.

But I also think THIS MESSAGE BOARD is one of the BEST things - Having been out of the "quilting" world for nearly 20 years, I've learned SO MANY NEW THINGS from all the talented people here - (& felt kinda stupid many times not knowing what a term means - still trying to learn some of the abbreviations, can't keep my "printed list" update, there are so many new ones all the time - but then that might also have something to do w/being so old.)

Have a blessed week end & may all you quilts be filled w/love

Lesson: There is no one "right" way to do any part of quilt making.

I am new to quilting but I agree that the Rotary cutter is amazing. Since it hasn't already been said, I will say Basting Gun. I recently used one on a Queen size and it was much nicer than safety pinning the whole thing :)

I forget who mentioned it first, but Elmer's glue is my new best friend.

Mustache trimmer to use as a seam ripper. Its amazing how quickly you can un-sew a long seam using this. I first saw this at a retreat. I could hear this buzzing every once in a while from across the room. Finally had to go investigate. On the way home, stopped at the store and bought one. When I got home, told hubby hey I bought you a present! He looked at it and said "why do I want that, I don't have a mustache" To that I said oh, I forgot, guess I will have to use it to rip my seams. grin. I didn't think he would ever stop laughing.

right now I will have to say my Accucut Studio. Hands down. Yesterday the power was out from 8:30am to 4pm. I couldnt sew, compute, bath or flush (well water), nor wash clothes. But I could cut with my Studio. I cut up 2 bags of scraps, big bags. now have strips 1 1/2, 2 and 2 1/2. Yea!!!

Rotary cutting, pressing as I go, accurate 1/4" seams, spray basting, using ladder stitch to sew on binding, and NEVER quilt without chocolate!!

I've been quilting for about 10 years, so for me, rotary cutter & mat have always been around. I couldn't piece now without my 1/4" foot.
