    Definitely not your rotary cutter. I do bring a very small pair of scissors and some hand needle work. I have carried on my Janome Gem with no problem.

    You can take rounded point scissors -- I take kids fiskars on the plane all the time, not the ointy ones, the rouded ones. Check the www.tsa.gov and they are very clear. You have to poke through a bit, but it is very clear what you can and cannot bring on board in your carryon. Someone who knits or does needlepoint must have had a hand in it.

    I always take some handwork, usually applique, but limit yourself to one pair of snips
