    My daughter was able to bring her knitting needles to Costa Rica but Cost Rica wouldn't let her bring them back. They were in her carry on so she could knit during the flight.

    I just got back on Monday from flying to Tx. I had my scissors (small) and needles and pins in my carryon. No problems at all. If all else fails take dental floss with you and use the cutter on it for your thread.

    I have mailed a package to the hotel I am staying in and they have kept it for me until I arrived. I know many people ship their luggage ahead. I just noted the postage or used one of the boxes from the PO and dropped it in the mail. No problem

    I know Fons and Porter make a sharp little non-pointy scissors that my friend uses as she binds her quilts while flying. Personnaly I don't bring anything because I fall asleep with the "white noise" of the plane.

    I flew from Spfld to Chi on a puddle jumper last weekend. Took a cross-stitch block with me, but TSA took my needles and snippers. They let me mail them back to myself, but it still kind of burnt my cookies b/c I did check ahead and the TSA on the phone said it would be fine.

    Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Take a pre-addressed/stamped envelope and a good book...

    Speaking not for myself but from a friend' experience. I think you can pack them in your luggage that will be in the cargo hold but definitey not in your purse or carry-on.

    The last time we flew, I forgot and had my short scissors in my carry-on. They didn't question it although others have had theirs confiscated.

    Usually, I take those little fingernail clippers to cut thread. Someone also suggested to me, that they brought some dental floss and used the little cutter on it to cut thread.

    I usually do embroidery or English paper piecing on the plane.

    I will be just out side of Atlanta. There will be no site seeing or anything like that. During the day i will be in class..at night in a hotel room with another person. I won't have a car unless i rent one lol. I was hoping to do some sewing while i was there. I am working an a tying project but im unsure if i can bring it on the plane with me...it is a queen size quilt. And i would be devastated if TSA destroyed it. I may send stuff. I haven't flown since 1999. And honestly wouldn't if it wasn't required for work. Thank you everyone for your help =)

    I you want to just cut thread as for hand work, then take dental floss in a the plastic container. The cutter on the container will also cut sewing thread very nicely. I you have an larger, empty container you can fit in it a bobbin of thread and a few pins to make a mini sewing kit that you can take on the plane.

    I carry embroidery stuff and my daughter flys world wide and takes knitting needles with her on board. I take the Fiskars children's scissors and have never had an issue.
    On a recent flight, my seat mate had a featherweight that she put in the overhead compartment.
    I check my tool box for my miniature gatherings-xacto knives, blades, etc as well as screwdrivers. Also my good scissors, sharp ones.
