Fine for me because I always clean out the dryer vent - she does not. So decided this was not a good type of quilt for her.

Now I don't know what to do with the flannel I still have.
Can you make a quilt with this fabric ?
And if so, is there a better type of block that should be used ?

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Flannel is great for baby quilts. But I sew with a 3/8" seam. Log cabins or rail fence work great.

Do be sure to prewash it though, it shrinks a TON.
Thanks for the tip - I'm planning my first flannel quilt - hoping to have it done before the snow flies.

I also love flannel quilts. I read somewhere recently that you should wash flannel 3 times to get the full shrinkage. I have not done that so hope the quilts I have already done did not shrink too much. I love the idea of using flannel on the backs too to make the quilt more cozy.

Here is a quilt I made out of flannel. It was for my FIL. He couldn't see much so I thought that he could at least feel the soft flannel. He passed away about a month after I gave it to him. I gave the quilt to his care giver. She was such a blessing and loved the quilt. So you can make some lovely quilts out of flannel. Just make sure you preshrink it before you start using it.

Make use you wash and dry your flannel three (3) times before you cut it and put it into a project. It will shrink lots.

Yes, flannel makes beautiful quilts, plus they are very warm. Just remember to make your seam allowance 1/2" (not 1/4") because the flannel frays more than regular cotton. You don't want your seams coming out the first time it gets washed. Ellen

I use flannel a LOT I love using them for backings on special quilts they make them so cosy, and there is nothing to stop you making tops with flannel instead of cotton just be careful of the patterns, something too fussy doesn't work, yellow brick road, turning twenties patterns are great for showing off lovely flannels. As someone said, "Create", use your imagination which is what quilting is about :-D
