A friend of my husband asked that I make a quilt for his hunting lodge and he would sell it for me so I made 2, since I had so much fabric - one is a yellow brick road and the other is Hoffman's patchwork boquet, both lap size - I split the cost of fabric between the 2 so fabric cost is $65, batting is $15, cost of quilting is $35 for a total of $115 just in costs - what should I tell him the price should be? (He gets his for the $115 cost, so I am just selling the other). This will be first quilt that I have sold, a little scary!!

Double it, I'll bet it took you a long time to make it. Suddenly it's turned into a business and you have to get something out of it. I'll bet that should you ask only 150 for the first guy, everyone else who sees it will want the same deal, no matter if they are ordering a baby quilt or a king sized one. Few people who don't quilt have any idea of what goes into a quilt, and are sometimes shocked to be asked to pay a decent price.

Do you have an estimate about how much time you've got in each? I would charge cost of materials, plus what you consider a fair wage for you. If you ever think you might do it again don't undersell your self (well, really don't ever undersell yourself, but you know what I mean ). I would think about $10 an hour fair...or there are many threads about charging per sq inch, if you do a search you'll get a ton of 'em I'm sure! ;)

I've been commissioned to make a quilt as well, so I'll be watching this thread closely!

I would charge at minimum $125.
