Depends on the look you want. A dark solid would make it dramatic, a light solid would give it a subtle old fashioned look.

I rather like the color of the flooring you're displaying them on!

Then I would suggest to use a dark solid purple that is similar to the unifying one. Love the blocks so far. It will be grand when finished.

this was my first thought, too

Thank you all for your advice, I will show you finished product someday. Still unsure. I wish there was a local place I could look at shot cotton where the warp and weft are woven out of different colors, that would give me a solid with a little more punch.

    Susan7639,
I'd forget the "shot" cotton (never heard of this). You already have the PUNCH with those Eng. Paper Pieced blocks. They are beautiful. Keep the unifying background/sashing simple and solid or near solid (tone on tone)...the deep purple would be lovely and rich looking!

(just an observation, is that lower right block finished? or does it need another row?)

    Good luck.

I agree with using a darker color and I think navy or navy tone on tone would be my first choice.

I vote purple - possibly a batik with purple and navy???? Or a tone on tone purple?
