I thought about it on and off all week, and finally a couple of feasible ideas flew into my brain. However, I'm pretty sure this is not a brand new idea...

    1. Use the 9 patches to make flying geese. I tried it, it works, but I really don't like to make flying geese and the they were very bulky.

    2) Use the 9 patches as corners on snowball blocks on a scrappy quilt.

    3) Use the 9 patches for a 1/2 square triangles and put them together with my million other scraps to make a scrappy quilt.

I decided to do idea number 3, and have put together enough blocks to know I'm going to like the results. Even better, I'm reducing my mountain of scraps. Not by much, though.

When it's done, I'll post pictures. Just don't hold your breath!

No fair to tempt us by telling us you're going to like it and then making us wait. Pics of beginnings, please.

GrannieAnnie, that quilt was finished and donated a long time ago. It did turn out nice, but I didn't take a picture of it. Sorry!

This would also be my suggestion.

And then you can use them in a scrappy quilt without cutting them up further.

Sharyn Craig has written a book called "Setting Solutions" which gives great ideas to address this very problem. Worth looking at. It goes along with the wonky idea, using "coping" strips, using different settings to camouflage inconsistencies, even color can be altered by dye baths, etc., to make blocks more compatible.

I thought making them even more wonky!! adding long "rectangles" to the sides and tilting them.
