I am preparing to move and have a bunch of quilts that I found when cleaning out my parent’s house after their deaths. I had never seen these quilts before, and do not know who made them. I am trying to decide what to do with the ones I don’t want to keep. I have no nieces or nephews to give them to. Some are practically in shreds, some are downright ugly, they all seem pretty dirty –apparently they have been well used. I have seen some on this board so excited because they found an old quilt at a yard sale or Goodwill. What should I do with these so that I don’t feel guilty??? I am attaching pictures so you can see how torn, dirty, and ugly they are - (notice the one that looks like it is made of scraps from cutting out dresses). TIA for any advice. Georgia in FL

They're pretty interesting! You might offer them in the classified section of this board.
I do like the one you say is falling apart.
Maybe someone here would love to repair them.

The last one is really pretty and some of the others. I would put them on the board for sale. Even if you only got $25. or 35. each it would be worth it and make someone happy with a vintage 30-40's quilt.

I would offer them in the Classified/For Sale section to see if anyone wants them. A lot of people love old quilts, me included. I use them for lots of different things, ragged or not. Personally I like the square in a square one.

have you considered donating them to a local museum/historical society?
there looks to be much historical value there...

That's a really good idea - wish I'd thought of it. They might also be able to help you date them.

I can't believe quilt #2 the one you describe as crazy.
Someone used what they had - literally!
It's definitely one of a kind - an original or limited edition.

I agree you can put them on classified here. Or I think there was a thread about adopting quilts too. It was from a member that found them at garage sales etc. and for the cost she paid and shipping she would send you the quilt.

I do like them and they are of some use whether repair or a as a cutter quilt to make other projects.

Glad you are not "throwing" them away. They will be snatched up and loved by someone.

I had a quilt top that my Great-grandmother made. I knew I would never finish it and it was for a full size bed. I put it on an auction and it sold for $150. That was unfinished. People really like the old quilts.
