What a thoughtful son you have. I agree with the others, make something that he will see you use. I think it's awesome that a 21 year old guy was brave enough go into a fabric store LOL.

DS is a real sweetie and kind of special ed so I definitely think his feelings should go above anything. What was I thinking of returning it?

I am going with all your advice and am keeping it. The colors are very workable. OK an ideas on what to do with 7 FQ?[/quote]

How about a table runner you could put out when he was coming over. That way wouldn't require a lot of washing and he'd see yyou used it.

I'd suggest to use it to make something useable, like a tote bag or patchwork purse, something that you are going to add lining and stablizer to that will help the integrity of the original fabric. I'm glad you aren't thinking of returning it, his heart was in the right place and even though he's a 21 y.o. guy, I've learned that even they enjoy seeing what can magically appear from some bits of fabric!

I would move heaven & earth in order to use the fabric! I myself dislike returning anything! I'm sure you could decide on something...it was sooo thoughtful of him to gift you fabric!

My darlings gave me a clock that I wasn't particularly fond of,but I hung it anyway.Doesn't go with anything and I have this thing about stuff coordinating or matching. So it was hard , but its been up almost five yrs now and I think of them every time I check the time. I wouldn't dream of taking it down now. :D
Now is that ever cute! I also like all the other ideas including the laundry line wrapped basket. I might end up with too many things I want to do with it. ~smile~ Thank you all for your candid and honest responses and wonderful ideas. I washed and trimmed the strings off the FQ and they are on my quilting table.

I agree with mom-6. Use the FGs to make something for him. It will make you happy and especially make him happy I am sure.

Please don't hurt his feelings by telling him that they aren't the quality you prefer.

I would make him something if the prints are suitable for a man or maybe you could make a charity item like pillowcases for a local children's hospital.

Or..you could make a table runner or placemats.

Be happy that he bought you fabric, knowing your love of quilting. Every year my kids ask me what I want for Christmas. I tell them a gift certificate to the LQS is perfect, even just $10. Think I have ever received one???? NO...LOL

Make potholders or candle mats. Mug rugs. What a kind son to have put that much thought into his gift for you. He truly loves you dearly that is very clear!
