My husband's aunt has passed away and we are currently cleaning out her house. I found several white cotton sheets and some wool blankets, in grey, burgundy and dark green. Flannellette sheets as well....any thoughts on using these? Can the wool blankets be used as batts? I hate to throw them all away, but don't want to keep what cannot be used in a timely fashion. I have enough junk of my own....

Oh, and I guess I'll have to learn to play the accordian. Found a very nice one of those too!<G>

What ever you do. . . . .do not throw them away!! I'm sure the homeless shelters could use them, if they are worn the animal shelter is always looking for blankets too!

This is what I was going to suggest. And good luck with the accordian lessons! :)

I agree. Either donate them or use them as batting. They would make nice warm quilts!

Yes, use the wool blankets as batting. I remember having a wool blanket when I was growing up. It was an Army blanket issued to my dad. I loved having it on my bed in the winter.

Blankets can make for a nice warm quilt of any size.

Flannelette ... could be used for batting or in the raggy quilts

Cotton sheets ... foundation piecing ... or if in excellent shape, as part of your stash. Are there any men's shirts that could be cut up for piecing with them? .... or your DHs :)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I shouldn't have said "throw away" because I wouldn't. I'd donate them to a shelter definitely. We have a lot of clothing to donate to a local charity as well. I've just been pitching and tossing a lot of junk and bits and pieces, so that must have been on my mind.:)

I want to make some scrappy quilts next winter, so I'll put the blankets away for the time being. She just happens to have a lovely blanket box that will be coming home. Oh, and the treadle....I forgot about the treadle.....I need to build on a room!<G>

I am so sorry for your loss. Sounds like you will find good use for her blankets and sheets. Lots of great ideas provided.
