Youcan decorate the sides and top of the spool. Then get small flowers and put the stems in the hole on the top for a miniature boquet of flowers. That was very popular at our Youth Camp one year.

I toss most of min -- I still have a bunch of wooden spools but have not hung onto the plastic ones. When my lasg DGS gets a a bit older, I will throw a few in his drawer in my kitchen. I have a couple of very large wooden spools that I wind binding on and it feeds from my front spool holder.

I don't have a problem since I place them in my Waste Management recycle barrel. They really are a very green company even using natural gas to power their fleet.

You tape the safety pin with its small hole facing up, to the edge of your machine and use it as a guide to start your threading

The only spools I keep are the wooden ones my mother gave me. The plastic ones I throw out.

I save them up and then donate to the local Primary School. The Infants Department gives them to the kids to learn threading, counting, winding, stamping and just to build into other things. They always like to receive them. I save the wooden ones and make Christmas decorations with them.

You can make really cute Christmas tree decorations with them. Wrap them Christmas fabric, glued down. Thread embroidery floss through the holes in a great big button and then thread through the center of the spool. Repeat with aother spool, tie them together and you've got a Christmas decoration. Soon or late, though, you've got to get rid of them. They breed like rabbits and you soon will be buried under them. froggyintexas
