I don't wash mine. They are all tied, since I don't have a quilting machine and too exp to have them made. My quilts are usually king, which have a hard time fitting in my washer. I don't trust laundromats

I always wash mine first before gifting. After they've been mauled around by me for weeks or months and the long armer, I'm sure they are dirty. Plus, I like them to smell good when they are unwrapped.

    I wash it.

    1) I want to make sure all my seams are secure, my first attempts at making quilts weren't so well constructed. I'm so much better now.

    2) I want to make sure nothing bleeds.

    3) I want the crinkly look you get after washing. I made a quilt for a friend. She washed it and called me crying that she had "ruined the pretty quilt" I'd given her. It was the wrinkly look you get from washing a new quilt. I reassured her that was what it was supposed to look like.

    4) I have a cat and he likes quilts, especially those I'm working on. So I have to wash all the cat hair off right before I gift it. And bag it up real quick because that stupid cat can find a freshly laundered quilt so fast and make a bed in it in a flash.

I always wash and I use all cotton batting andI LOVE the aged look that comes from washing and the cotton batting. I also found that if there was a spot where there was a seam that worked loose for some reason, it will show up and I can fix the boo boo before it goes out there for the world to see.:)

I never thought about it. I am always so anxious to give it to whom ever; I just give it.

I don't wash mine. I like them to look new. The wrinkled look just doesn't appeal to me, but I always include washing instructions.

Because my quilting and piecing can be a little on the...um... CASUAL side sometimes.....I wash before giving just in case I need to mend something after the first wash. At least that was the first wash is done before the recipient sees the quilt, and I can use a little surreptitious permanent glue or a few stitches to correct the OOPS!
