    I wouldn't change the sashing either, especially if it is all sewn together. Don't know what size you are going for but to change the sashing will also change the size....just a thought.
    I love it and it is perfect for a man.

    Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

    I am sure that part of my issue is that my example has dark sashing and I am using light. Its actually off white,cream almost. I was afraid that dark sashing with the dark flannel and dark backing would just be too dark

    I think the blocks look good but I agree w/Geri B that it's the light sashing that is throwing you off. I would go for natural muslin (it's a bit darker than cream) instead of the light. W/the homespun's it will look more masculine IMHO. But if you leave it cream it will still look great and he will still love it I'm sure.

    I wouldn't change the size of the sashing. It's difficult to work with anything narrower. I might mix up the blocks a bit so that the same colors are not altogether. That would be my only suggestion, although there is definitely nothing wrong with how it is.
