I sew on a desk/shelving combo from IKEA. It's pretty amazing.

My bf got me the biggest shelf they have, assembled the whole thing, and gifted it to me for christmas last year. We're looking at buying another shelf for the scrapbooking supplies (i'm a nut!)

Here's an outdated pic -- we've added a few more bins, and I got a clip-on light for it too...

Nope - a current pic - with all bins, the light, and both machines -- and the laptop too...

I took a 3/4" piece of plywood and made a huge table for me. I used 1x6 and abutted them for the legs and put a couple more in the middle. That thing doesn't move and I have a lot of space to sew, cut, iron next to my machine if I want and a lot of space to hold a quilt when I'm sewing. I've purchased the plastic drawer cabinets that fit right underneath.

    Easy and cheap!!

I have a pretty small sewing room, 9x9 no closet; I have a 8 ft banquet table on one wall, and a slimmer 6 ft banquet table on another wall. that's plenty of room to have a large cutting mat and peicing on the 8 ft, then quilting and pressing on the 6ft

I have one from the Bernina dealer too. The back folds down when needed ( it's in the guestroom) so people can move around the room a little :D
I still sew on the kitchen table sometimes though. I have a small machine for that. Drives my hubby crazy!! hehe

My sewing machine is on what I call a vanity. Basically it's a 7' board. Underneath each end of this board is a 3 drawer dresser. One dresser has my patterns, rulers, etc and the other dresser has my sewing threads & notions. It's not the best height for me but it works.

Sewcrafty...I asked my DH if he couldn't just put up a plywood top with legs and he is considering doing that. Did you cover the top of the plywood so material would slide easily?

Vjengels: My room is about 10x10 but not truly square because of doorway, etc. but I do have a closet and I have 3 plastic shelving units in there for supplies, etc. My problem is I have a very large cutting table (36x54x36 high) that I had at our house in TX. I had a much larger sewing room so it was perfect but it takes up a lot of space so it doesn't leave me much room.
