I try notice I said try to keep threads up as I go. A friend gave me several empty folgers plastic coffee containers (I don't drink coffee) and I have one sitting on the floor next to my chair. I try to drop threads and scraps into that. If I have a lot of threads loose on the floor, or when I move my project, I use a wad of blue painters tape and a little exercise of bending over or squatting and picking up the threads with that, really works good for me, then I vacumn. I have a small magnetic wand I use sometimes for the pins.

First I use an extendable magnet to pick up stray pins, then I use a canister vacuum. There's not beater bar or roller to get threads wrapped up around it. Many times I use the vacuum wand alone to pick things in small places.
