I have a friend (I use that term loosely after this - lol) who gave me baggies of her 'trimmings'. I sat down one afternoon and made 450 HST's. I have spent the last few days working on trimming them down to 1.5" squares. I have bundled them into sets of four and am making pinwheels out of them. They end up being 2.5" and play nicely in a nine patch with plain blocks. I am not sure what I am going to do with the nine patches but they will be easier to deal with than the smaller blocks. I have been saving the trimmings in a baggie to give back to her - lol.

I don't save them to use. I just put them in the "scrap" box and when that is full, pass the whole thing on to another quilter.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in saving these! or not using them! And to you who shared your projects, thanks so much! It's nice to be able to get my mind off of high center and be able to start visualizing something real instead of all these little pieces .

I saved about 1000 or so that were all sewn together. They would trim up to finish at 1 inch HST. I squared up about 20 with the plan of making the Lady in the Lake pattern. After realizing I'd go crazy before I ever finished if I worked with stuff that small, I sent them off as a "hostess gift" to one of the ladies on the board that likes postage stamp sized things.

I've made them into tiny pinwheels and plan to use as cornerstones in sashings.

What perfect timing for this ? I just finished using these cut offs on a little quilt and always happy to share a picture.
they are very usful bits and as all the pictures here show, make very nice projects.

I have oodles of these , too. At a quilt class we were given the idea of the use of HST. When marking your diagonal line for stitching make another diaggonal 1/5" from the first line. Stitch on both lines and you now have 2 usable HSTS. The idea was to use them in a border for the same or different quilt. I like the doll quilt shown above. It is awesome all the hints and ideas to be found on QB.
