Could that be for "mediums"? Is there a "L" label and a "D" label? Just a wild guess.

Nice find. She must have had a system but I am not sure what it was.

Went to thrift store (associated with Mentally handicap facility) and for $10 got a clear quilt bag full of flannel squares 8" -10" sewed with an X, batting and backing. After I took them all apart found direction for rag flannel quilt and realized that is what they were for. X's were wonky so taking them apart was OK. Also some fat quarters, in cotton and flannel and some bigger pieces. Now I check every time and will decide what to do with squares, 9 patch maybe or sew straight x's and make the rag quilt. Such fun finds sometimes. Enjoy and let us see what you do with your find.

There's no way to make sense of someone else's notations on the pieces... just remove them and organize them your own way.

Great score, all those scrappy pieces already cut!

I can't tell you what the labels mean, perhaps some form of identification for a quilt or project? Regardless of what the label means you scored big time with your $5.

My guess is that they tried to sell some of it at a yard/garage sale. Fabric belong to person with "M" for initials and they wanted 65 cents for that stack.

I wouldn't spend much time trying to figure it out.
I would just start a scrappy quilt.
