What if I want to cut fabric along the selvage to get the lengthwise design?

Many of us prefer cutting borders along the selvedge for the stability of the weave. I typically prefer bias binding, but will use long length of left over backing happily, and not so much cross-wise.
Personally, I find working with stripes a lot of fun and often cut long because of the patterns.
When you do find a design that goes cross-wise across the fabric, be aware that there is usually some "drift" in the design and it will typically not cut straight across with a ruler, but that you have to fussy cut your edge to match the design. It's often designed in, not just a few threads off during the manufacturing process. I'll do that too, if it gives me the look I want.

Often cut lengthwise, especially when doing borders. I can cut long lengths that way without having to piece them. The biggest difference between lengthwise and crosswise is that there is normally less stretch on the lengthwise cut. but if you cutting quilt pieces that makes little difference and I find that for borders, they seem to lay nice and flat when I cut lengthwise strips.
