I use an armless computer chair that I bought at a yard sale for $5.00. Still can't figure out why they were getting rid of it. Multiple adjustments, upholstered fabric is flawless, rollers work---their loss, my gain.

I have this really interesting old wooden sewing chair my sister gave me - there is a bentwood curved piece on the back that is positioned such that it makes you sit up straight when you sew. It really helps keep me from back strain. I did add a pillow for a butt cushion. Not as pretty as the cane work, but it makes it just the right height.

(... I have an unusual chair or rather a stool. It is a workbench stool bought at local motor spare parts outlet (males in my family are all in the motor trade) on sale. has like Harley Davidson motor bike saddle seat. all adjustable thingy's, back, height seat etc., no arms, good solid base with foot rest and wheels... )I posted this not long after joining the board, I bought it because my bench at the time was quite high and this stool has a higher raising height. I now have new, lower bench and still use it. The seat keeps your legs apart, which makes you sit up straighter = less back and shoulder aches.

Yep, it really does help. I'm almost 2 yrs post surgery (I had a bad fall & 2 herniated disks, crushed spinal cord & some nerve damage in my foot) and I also changed my footwear. I went from sneakers every day to boots with a 2-3" heel (big chunky ones for balance). Heck of an ego boost too, I walk with head high & shoulders back. Even when I'm in an uncomfortable situation I "look" confident, lol...

Figured I'd throw that out there if anyone has a sore back, works wonders! I spent 4 months so hooked on pain meds I could barely function. I'm young, only 33, lots of years left in my back and I have to take care of it.

I just looked at them on line.........they go for $550.00 to over $700.00... have a circular base with what looks like a spring for the shaft...then like mushroom top for the seat....you can google swooper chair...
