What kind of fabric is this?
#43
Many of your answers are right. It IS osnaberg, a fabric very similar to what slave clothing was made from before the civil War. It is often used in reproduction clothing, modern jackets - washed to shrink after machine quilting with interesting designs, for "antiqued" or primitive looking quilts/dolls/embroidery background, for use in ragged quilts, too, as stated. It has even been used for diapering after shrinking it by washing. It dyes well and now is often used by the younger moms to make dyed fabric for baby-wearing slings. Lots of fun stuff to do with osnaberg!!
