    I have had sharpie pens wash out. They also fade with light. So even though they say they are permanent, they aren't.

    micron pigma pens- they are acid free--archival...and made for it. the problem with using sharpies is...they bleed (cause a fuzzy edge on the fabric) pigma pens were made for writing on textiles and the ink is archival - no acid to eat through the fabrics as time goes by.

    If you don't like Pigma pens you can also use ZigWriters from the scrapbook department. They're also acid free, archival and don't bleed. They also have a nice variety of tips and colors.

    Interesting ... I've used Sharpies, and then heat set them.
