Funny this should come up today when I was just about ready to post about my iron. I have had a Singer Expert Finish for almost a year now. I bought this model after I read in the magazine "Shop Smart", by consumer guide, that it had their highest ratings. I love it and it puts out lots of steam or no steam as I want. They also give recommendations as to what type of water to use. In my area, spring water was recommended and it is working beautifully.

I have had 3 Rowenta irons and will never get another one. They were very expensive and I loved them The first one worked well for a few weeks. Then it started steaming so much it would run out of water in 5 minutes or so. It left puddles under the ironing board. I tried to warranty it thru Rowenta..... things didn't go well. I returned it to Bed bath and Beyond where I purchased it. They gave me a new one no problems. The next one lasted just over a year when it started leaking a lot. Out of warranty but I emailed Rowenta and said I thought a $100+ iron should last over a year. They said i was SOL. While I was shopping for a new iron my friend gave me a brand new Rowenta never removed from the box. She doesn't iron EVER. It lasted just over a year before it too leaked like crazy. Ruined a quilt block with the water stains. I now have a Shark that I like so far except the auto shut off is a little bit short but I can live with it.
I love auto shut off on my iron as it is upstairs and I always worried about if I remembered to shut it off. Good luck on your hunt for a good iron.

I have a Sunbeam...it was fairly cheap (as irons go), but at least it doesn't drip like so many expensive ones I've heard about. I really like the shot of steam button, too.

I have 2 irons: Panasonic NI-E650TR good steam and its purple/white. I've had it for over a year and no problems so far.
Sunbeam Steam Master, good steam model 4222, had it 2 years; this is #2 the first one just stopped working.

I also have a panasonic cordless which I love, so nice not to fight with the cord.

Your going to get a multitude of opinions but this subject has come up before. According to this board, and personal friends , the new Rowenta irons are not worth the price. They just don't last. If an automatic shut off is a feature you value I would buy one with it. But having bought the top of the line model irons in the past, my suggestion is to buy the least expensive iron you can find.

*LOL* The little Rival turned out to be the perfect quilting iron: it irons dry without spitting, has plenty of steam when I want steam, is very lightweight, and turned out to be the ultimate bargain!

This is what I have too! Actually 3 of them. Bought them for the Outreach group I do through our guild. They are 2 years old and still going strong!
