I have ironed freezer paper to the back of fabric to stabilize it for writing. That worked well.

What about putting it in a hoop? Would that make it stable enough?

I'm not sure. I'd try it and see.

the fabric stores carry fabric markers which can be used for the autograph quilts. I have used them and they are great!! You can get them in fine line or fat line, plus in a package of colors.

I get the pens at my local quilt shop ... a stationary shop should have them also, be sure to actually see 'archival" on them ... you will feel safer if you can see those words/phrases.

Now, I have a question! Elenor Burns is always using a fine point sharpie on her quilts for marking angles and stuff ... I would rather use a ball point pen, but, why would she suggest that if it is bad for the quilts?
(if no one answers <g> I will not take offense, trust me <g> I just don't understand why an expert would teach a bad idea ... that doesn't make sense - - but, then, in my world >I< make sense, and you know what my family says! LOL)
