and I do just fine. Buying quilting notions are just like kitchen notions. You don't need them. Maybe use them once and they are stuck in a drawer. All the quilting notions will not make me a better quilter. Precision is what makes a good quilter.
Be precise when cutting quilt pieces, and precise when stitching.
The magnetic pen holders are great, but should never be used around a computerized machine. The best gifts you can buy a quilter is a good ruler or rotary blades.
    AMEN.........

I agree! I've bought two of those & didn't like either one. Never use them.

[quote=raptureready]I tried the pedicure toe separators for my bobbins and like them just fine.

I use pony tail holders to go around the bobbins. I don't remember where I found that tip, but I like it.

what is the Zip Bind system?
It is a Martelli product sold with lots of pieces that is supposed to make binding so easy. It might be good for other people, but to me it is useless. You can see it here:

Good to know! The side-winder was my most expensive notion purchase (so far) that I don't like. Does not wind tight. I was going to return it, but too much time had passed.

One of my handiest tools is a telescoping rod with a magnet on the end. Great for picking up dropped needles, pins & small tools.

What is it? Never heard of it.
The wasteful notions I bought was a 2 tone purple seam ripper from Dritz, supposed to be ergonomic; but its not very sharp and doesn't rip very well at all. The Side Winder is about useless, I can't use it with my Viking bobbins and the bobbins it does work with aren't wound evenly.

Yeah, did you ever notice when you put your hand out to drop a thread in the basket it jumps away so you miss it. I have a waste basket by every machine (4) and I still have stuff all over the floor. Cheap baskets, I guess.
especially if you have the fan on too. lol

I only use those with my non-computerized machine. I use the
Grab-it magnetic pin holder and its okay with my Viking.

I still have mine, I love it. My Viking nags me when the bobbin is getting low, it stops and won't let me sew until I change it. :-o

What is the "purple thang?" I remember seeing it advertised somewhere but never did understand what all its possible uses could be. Thanks.

I have one and really love it. In fact I sold my accu quilt go and bought the Alto quilt cut 2 because the "go" stretches fabric and wastes it. I figured if i wasted 1/2 inch on a 2 inch cut, that was a 25% waste of fabric. There is literally no waste on the Alto unless you are fussy cutting. :-D
