I stopped buying smaller pieces because I found I had a load of different fabrics, but not much of any one thing. I have started buying just 2 yard pieces. I bet the pre-cut groups are great for someone who wants to get straight to the sewing.....

Buy what you can afford on the yardage. I buy at least a yard, more if I really "like" it
Unless a pattern that you have already picked out calls for the precuts you are better off with yardage , and even then you can make your own, take the yardage and cut it down

I would like to build a stash but I'm notorious for buying fabric with no plan and then I never have enough for a project.

I really like layer cakes and jelly rolls. I am beginning to buy packages of pre cuts more and then buying yardage as blenders to them. I like how all the fabric in one design line is all included in the pre cuts.
