    You buy fabric with a large print .... then cut it up in such a way that it makes little designs in itself ...... I dont know what to call this to google it !! Stack and whack ?? Kaleidoscope ?

    also can cut strips four fabrics deep (stacked on top of each other matching designs and pinned) and then cut squares from those strips. then take four sqs at a time and turn them till you like what you see and sew into four patch.
    four patch posie was what that was called because it started with floral fabric "posies". but any design can be used.

    I used the book by Bethany S. Reynolds, MAGIC STACK -N-WHACK QUILTS. Very good directions and pictures.
