The serpentine stitch is on both my Janome machines. I thought it was a basic stitch. I sometimes use Nancy's ( of Sewing with Nancy) "wobble stitch" she uses the regular zig zag stitch (Mode 1, stitch 8 on my Janome) and sets the width at .05 and length to 1.9. It makes a stitch with just the slightest "wobble" in an otherwise straight stitch. Try the settings on your zig zag and see what you get. I use it sometimes when doing straight line quilting stitches.

I don't know if I have it on my Janome. It's not as small as a Gem but pretty small.
