My grand daughter has been sewing with me since she was two. I would sit her on my lap and put my hands on top of her's. She is now 10 and has made two quilts of her own.
I have two machines. One is a mechanical Toyota I purchased for traveling the other is my new Pfaff. I have them side by side so we can sew together.
Since the only time my grand daughter sews is when she is with me I have told her that the Toyota is her's and mine is the Pfaff. She loves the idea. She just finished her last quilt and says she is done sewing. But I know better if she sees a great fabric she loves she will want to make something.
If she had a sewing maching at home it would just collect dust. This way it is something very special that we do together.
Oh by the way I started my grandson when he was 5 and he is in the middle of his second quilt. We have been working on this one for almost a year. He looses interest really quick. So I put it away till the next time he wants to sew with his Nana. :-)
