What Size Baby Quilt?

What Size Baby Quilt?
What size do you prefer for a baby quilt? Crib battings are usually 45" x 60", but do you feel that is too large? Would you prefer something in the 36" x 45" size? Or is there another size that works best? Any and all opinions are welcomed!

I make baby quilts square anywhere from 36 -48 inches. I tell the new mom to place iton the ground when baby wants to crawl or not be held. It makes a great way in a crowd for everyone to see the baby but not hold the baby. It also makes a great "clean" place to change a diaper in a pinch.

I make most baby quilts about 45 x 60". If you buy a baby quilt panel, it's 36x45", and I always add borders around it, usually 5-6" all the way around, sometimes 1 border, sometimes several borders adding up to 5-6".
I figure that the kid can carry the quilt around with him/her for a lot longer if you make it a little bigger.
For kids 10-15, I'll make a double bed sized quilt. I figure it will fit on a twin bed, hanging to close to the floor. Or depending on who it is, I might make a lap quilt, or maybe just a fleece blanket 60 x 72"

I make my crib quilts close to 45" x 60". If I make them just under 45". one width of fabric will do for the backing and I won't have to piece it. I also think a child will be able to use their quilt much longer if it is a little bigger.

I go for the sort of sizes mentioned here, but will consider where the recipients live - some British houses have small rooms, so I make sure I stay within a size that will be usable on their floors.
