I visited a new QS last week and was pleasantly surprised to learn they cut as small as 10cm, 4inches! Fabric shops in general here in NZ will cut to that but some QS say they will only cut to 20cm or 25cm. What do they do in your local QS?

I had an aunt that would get 1/4 yard of everything. I bet they hated to see her coming!

I guess I've never asked. I'll be going there on Sunday and will ask them then.

Mine has several "small" sections (i.e., 10" and 5" squares, 2-1/2 strips, Fat 1/8, and Fat 1/4) for each fabric grouping already cut!
If they don't already have it cut the will go down to a Fat 1/8 for you. :-D

Two will cut to whatever you ask. One has 1/2 minimum. However, this does not affect me since I mostly purchase 3 yds at a time. Currently I am using the same fabric for two quilts so my minimum is 1 yard. I am new have a tendency to make a cutting errors now and then.

I get quarter yard cuts all the time. Our local shop usually asks if I'd like that as a fat quarter or selvage to selvage cut. They are wonderful.

While they do stock smaller sizes, I've not seen someone ask for smaller cuts than 1/4 yard.

A lot of ours will cut 4 inches but I buy by the yard if I'm not buying the whole bolt. LOL. Most of our stores will only cut in yard increments if its a clearance item because it's 50-60% off already.
