I would have backed the t shirts with a thin fusible interfacing. This would have stabilized them and they wouldn't stretch.

I am also trying to quilt a T-shirt quilt - this one is for my neice's high school graduation. It is the first one I've ever done, and I have had SO much fun making it, right up to the time I started quilting. I had already decided I was only going to do SID, and then random turkey tracks on each of the blocks, but HOLY COW is it a you know what to even try to SID quilt it. The quilt is big, 20 12 inch squares all separated by 2 inch sashing, and it is very, very heavy. Trying to ram that big old quilt through the 7 inch throat of my machine is quite the challenge. I'm thinking about having a local person who specializes in T-shirt quilts finish the quilting.....Good luck to you.

I think that i may send my out to someone as well. my quilt that this lady made for her granddaughter is 12inch sq and 3 inch sashing as well and it has metallic fabric as well I thought that i could do big stitches but it is hard to move through the machine I just can't afford it right now I may try doing it in a frame that i brought years ago by hand not sure though I am doing this quilt for free so i can't afford to spend alot of money on it
