Default What size quilt do you find most useful?

I have quite a few blocks made for a quilt I really like and am at the point where I need to decide on the finished size. I can make it 81" square, 92" square, or 81" x 92" rectangular. I have a couple of quilts folded on the back of my sofa which I think are about 100" square, and I find them rather heavy and awkward to pull over me for a throw when the room is cold. I was thinking smaller might be better. Dh thought rectangular would be best for fitting on beds, but I pointed out to him that a square quilt can also be used on a bed; just use a white bedcover and position the square on the diagonal.

    Any thoughts?

Oh, and here is a link to my inspiration quilt for this project:

If you want to use the quilt as a throw, then 81 square is big enough and it could also be used as a twin or full size quilt, or as you suggested on a queen size bed. Generally, the throw quilts I make are 60" x 70" or slightly larger.

The best advice I can give is to please yourself if the quilt is for you.

how will you use the quilt on the sofa,,, to lie down/1 person or sit side by side/2 people or 1/person? I think the answer to this will help decide the size.

I like a good size quilt. 90" x 90" sounds good. But more than size, it's the wool batting that is giving me the most comfort.

I think it depends on the person who will be using it. My mom is 5'2" and my son is 6'4".. and the quilt I made for my son is 24" longer and wider than what mom would use

I've done quite a few 60 x 60 lately, mostly scrappies. I find they're great on the sofa, and are so much easier to handle when quilting on a domestic machine!

I love your inspiration quilt! Size really depends where the quilt is going to be used. For a couch throw, I like ~60"x80". This is big enough to fully cover myself, but small enough to not be hard to handle. 100" square is a generous queen size - too big for on the couch, IMO.

Of the size options you listed, I would choose 81" square, but for myself I would likely make it one row narrower (70"x81"?).

For the couch I prefer rectangular 60 x 80 fits well. I have a 60 inch square for my bed as a top and should have made it the 60 x 80 size.

I like the longer ones. I tuck my feet in them when I'm watching tv!

My vote is for the throw size too. I think they get much more use than any other size.
