stack and whack is a technique in which you stack several squares of different/coordinating fabrics then cut the stack into smaller pieces, move some of the top pieces to the bottom of the stack then stitch the blocks back together with different pieces. There are several ways to cut the stack - you can make it a crazy quilt look, be methodical and get simple shapes like wonky stars, or simply make it a wonky or straight ninepatch...once the original person advertised her technique, several others have done similar things. Buggy Barn quilts are a similar technique. I use the term stack and slash as a general term to describe the the technique, but others consider that term to describe a very specific way of doing the same thing.

Go to this site. Bethany Reynolds has written several books on the stack&whack. They are fun to do.
