I think if I were buying at this point, it would be the Husq. Viking or a Brother.

I have the Pfaff Expression 4.0 and absolutely love the sensor free motion quilting foot. It just floats along as one is quilting. I am happy with the machine.

First off I would look at the dealers near you. IMHO you must have a good dealer and repair person. Try out the machine before you buy if the dealer won't let you then DON'T buy there. Check the machine has all you want and that they will give classes for FREE to teach you to use it. The Bernina's have longer throat and also stitch regulators for quilting. I did not have good luck with my 4.0 Pfaff. Neither did the 4 other people that bought them. They don't make them anymore, but stay clear if you see one for sale. The Janome's have a larger area as well now. A lot of the girls have them and are very pleased. Happy Shopping

I have a 5.0 and love it! I was a Janome girl for years but was totally turned off by the sales person when I went in to upgrade. So far, the Pfaff is blowing my Janomes out of the water as far as performance and FUN!

I have a Pfaff Expression 2.0 and I love it. I really loved having a dealer nearby, but she went out of business a year ago. Sad....but I still love my Pfaff!! She and I have had 5 years together and have made 96 quilts so far, and that doesn't count mini-quilts or baby quilts. We get along very well.

I have. Been sewing on Pfaff for al most twenty years now and now have a Performance 5.0 and love, love it. Many of my friends have one two and are just as happy. All sewing machines are now, made in Asia, sign of the time. One or two are made in Japan but does not seemed to change the Pfaff. My old one is still working like a horse and I use it still.

I really don't think it matters where the machine is made these days. If you buy a machine and love it it's the best, if you buy a machine and hate it, it's the worst. I was thinking of picking up a Bernina 350QE but now thinking about the Babylock. I have Janome, Singer, Bernina, and Brother. Like them all and use each of them.

I have the Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.2. I love it. It is very easy to free motion quilt with this machine. I've had it for almost a year.

I also have a Babylock Elure. I have FMQ with it many times and without any problems. I use the embroidery foot when quilting. I agree with the small harp on it, but I still can use it. Sorry you had the bad experience.

Maureen, This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I recently purchased a Pfaff Expression 2.0 from Ebay and I am very happy with it. I have done a little free motion with it and it worked great with very little tension adjustment. It also has the 10" throat which is great. I also have a 35 yr old Pfaff, a 1209, which I love, it's probably my favorite one. I also have an expression 2034 which is also great. I am planning on selling that one as I don't need two machines doing basically the same thing. It has a smaller harp than my 1209, about 6 3/4". As you can see I am a Pfaff fan!
