I made a quilt which was traded for a new machine that my husband wanted and the person seemed to be ok with the trade. It was lap or twin size and I had no idea what it was worth. I've never made a quilt for anyone and got paid for it: I usually give them away, so please don't everyone yell at me... but it is ok to ask them what they would be comfortable paying for the quilt? Then see how far they are off?

I would definately tell her how much you thing the supplies are going to cost, then ask her how much she is willing to give you for your labor... maybee a balpark of the hours you think it will take to make the quilt... that's what I would do, or ask for around $800 especially if you are hand appliqueing...
