DON'T USE ANY color chalk since it doesn't wash out. I use to use the Purple be gone but you have to quilt quickly otherwise it does disappear. If I was going to wash a quilt, I would use Blue be gone. But you can't let it sit on a quilt for over a month.

I have used the Roxanne chalk pencils with excellent results. Got the Ultra Clean Crayola washable markers based on what someone on the board said so I plan to try them.

One of the gals on a different forum just ran into problems where this pen took off part of the die and left a white line. DEFINITELY test on your own fabric before using it.

My question is what do I use to mark a design on the white parts of the quilt? I was in a hand quilting group that used pencil, but I have my doubts that it would wash out. I read a post on the board that said she used white chalk on a dark quilt, but then I read another different post that most replies said not to use chalk, because it wouldn't wash out. I've seen people mention on the board that they used Crayola washable markers with good results. I'm going to try different methods on some leftover fabric, but I'd like to benefit from the experience of the board members. Please, what would you use to mark white fabric for quilting?
The ultra clean washable markers (fine tip if you can find it) work well. I have marked, ironed, and washed/dried the blocks. All the marks have disappeared, and did not return.

I use the Crayola washable markers. They are fantastic and I have never had a problem with them. They have always washed out completely!

I use Frixion pens, fine tip ultra washable markers, and plain old fashioned #2 pencils. Depends on the item, and my mood I guess! )

I have used regular old pencil on light color material and then went back with a clean eraser to remove it.
