What Are Your Essential Rulers & Favorite Speciality Rulers?

I love all my rulers, but I use the Easy Square, Jr. the most. It's perfect for squaring up sections and blocks. Or just a quick trim without breaking out the big ruler. http://www.createforless.com/Wrights.../pid67797.aspx
You can buy it at Jo-Ann's for $2.49 this week. All their quilting rulers are 50% off. Buy an extra and give it to your quilting buddy.

Jeannie, your X-block quilt is beautiful and I don't even like blue. My favourite rulers are O'Lipfa because they have the edge that hangs onto my board. I use my 5 1/2" X24 the most but also the longer one if I have wider fabric. I also use my 8 1/2" X 24 Omnigrid ruler frequently as I often cut 8 1/2" squares for some of my scrap quilts and this ruler makes the job go quickly. I put the rotary cutter guard on this ruler because it is heavier and I didn't want any slips. I also use my 4 1/2", 6 1/2", 8 1/2", and 12 1/2" squares all the time. I have put the little clear rubbery dots on each ruler to prevent slippage. I like them much better than the sandpaper dots which didn't work that well for me. I have several other specialty rulers which I use but not nearly as often as my favourites.

I use many sizes, but my new favorite brand is Creative Grids. They hold the fabric better than any other brand I've used. I put the plastic grip on the back of my Omni-grips, but the Creative Grids even hold better than that. I'm gradually replacing my other rulers with them. You can see them at this site:

My only suggestion would be to find one brand of ruler that you like and can use the easiest and stick with that brand. While teaching classes I have found that everyone has different rulers and they all read a little different. It is hard to go back & forth between rulers showing students how to use their particule ruler. Too many numbers, too many lines makes them too hard to read. Would suggest a 7/8" ruler, 6 1/2" sq, 12 1/2" sq. & a 6 x 24" to begin with. My all time favorite is my 6 1/2 x 12.

I've used the X-block ruler, found it very cool, but because I was not willing to sew all the tiny triangles into squares, I wasted a lot of fabric. Still, I love the look of the finished quilt from X-block

Check your old rulers - they do get worn down - believe it or not -
to make sure that they are still "full width"
I cut a strip - thinking it was 6.5 inches wide because that's what the ruler WAS - and then was going to cut squares with my brand new 6.5 inch square. That old ruler has a bow in it that's over 1/16 of an inch. (which doesn't sound like much, but it's enough to throw one off) So my squares were skimpy and that bothered me.
