Hmmmm, I usually use a blanket stitch on the edge of my fused applique. The blanket stitch would probably work well on the fleece but keep in mind it's going to be laundered roughly and heavily. If you use blanket stitch or any other decorative stitch, I think I would also straight stitch inside the applique about 1/8 inch on all the edges.

I use zig-zag usually but will be using many different stitches on the one I'm getting ready to quilt. I'll try to post pictures when done.
I've been wondering how you us a button hole stitch on appliqué. I can't "see" it in my mind.

After the applique is sewn down, I often try to embellish it with some of my decorator stitches, the feather works well at this.. Hope your Mom enjoys her quilt. I should go back to quilting my Mom's quilt.
