Default What is your favorite decorative stitch for machine applique?

I am making a lapquilt for my mother-in-law who resides in an Alheimers center. She also has macular degeneration, so I chose a colorful printed fleece for one side and a deep rose color for the other.

I made large letters to spell her name from bright spring green fleece and have fused them to the rose colored side with a washable, sew-able web. I hope there will be enough contrast for her to see them.

My question is ... what decorative stitch do you like for applique edges on fleece? I have a Bernina 440QE.

I was thinking maybe a ladder or blanket stitch or maybe the feather stitch?

I have used the button hole stitch - some use a zig - zag - this is a great opportunity yo play with all the extra stitches and just have fun

Satin stitch is my all time favorite, but another one I do use is one that looks like a vine with leaves and flowers in bold stitching on it, also a satin stitch in a scallop pattern with one side flat the other side scalloped. Next to this or to the plain satin stitch I frequently do a three stitch. This is a straight running stitch that is three stitches very close together, It is a much more defined stitch and is good to outline things in. I seldom care for the look of an applique that is just plainly stitched with only a simply stitch unless the fabric is breathtakingly beautiful.

go for texture--stitches not too loose or she may pick it off---track lines -honycombe for the quilting so you can feel the difference---ive watched patients going back and forth over a sheets hem stitching--folding and refolding pletes it seems to sooth them[unlike my spelling!!]

I mostly use back stitch but find the faggoting stitch looks very attractive as well - it is similar to a herringbone stitch.

Aren't there two blanket stitches on your machine ? One of them is thicker looking. I have a 150QE and mine has that stitch, so thought your machine might too.

I like using the blanket stitch and satin stitch. Depends on the fabric and the project.

I think the blanket stitch would work well.

I would not want to do satin stitch on a thick fleece. I would use a blanket stitch on fleece.. and probably increase the stitch lenght a bit.
