    My go to is Soft Fuse - as the name says the appliques remains soft!

    Grid pattern? Do you mean Pellon's Quiler's Grid (Pellon 820)? That's a non-woven fusible interfacing, not a fusible web like Wonder Under (Pellon 805). Wonder Under is just glue; it has no grid.
