    Regular 9-patch with coordinating fabrics and using the feature fabric as an alternating block.

    There are also nice star variations that use the feature fabric in the center.

    I really like Atkinson Designs Slide Show with it's large pieces of fabric http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/Item--i-ATK-138
    I may try it using photographs in the large squares, smaller, like a wall hanging.

    A snowball block with alternating 9 patch. Fast, easy, and looks cool if you use near solids to set off the snowball block.

    I did The 10 Minute Block pattern with fussy cut centers and I was really pleased with it.
