What is Your Inspiration to Make a Quilt?
#1
Do you look through magazines, find fabric you like or have a favorite pattern, see something in nature and decide to copy it, or just need a gift for someone? I'm having trouble getting started on a Baby Quilt for our 4th Grandaughter of all things.

for some reason i always seem to have the most trouble when it comes to baby quilts- i don't know why that is= i can design a queen size quilt in my sleep- get up and start making it- (i quilt in my sleep alot :) )
but when it comes to a baby/kids quilt i struggle, and take forever putting one together-
i suggest you look through magazines/books- google baby quilts, there is inspiration everywhere...sometimes a particular fabric line also offers free patterns to go with the line

Usually the love I have for the recipients is what gets me going on a quilt. That's why I find it so hard to make a quilt for someone who is not showing the love.
Once I'm feeling the love, then I set about finding a block that will have meaning for that person or couple! Sometimes a pattern will just jump out at me, sometimes not.

Sometime it's going thru my stash, looking at a magazine - seeing a pattern I really like, or walking thru the LQS and finding a fabric/pattern/ideas/class. These things rev my engine. haha Sometime I can just feel the fabric and I start purring.

All good suggestions. I have a kit - using pastels - that would work. I think a pinwheels and 9 patch is the pattern I will use (it's the easiest and it needs to be done by 19 Nov for the shower).

for me its a combination of the person it goes to and their likes and the fabrics that I have. usually starting with one fabric that I love and finding others to go with it. like right now I am working on a full size for my dd and I started with this fairy fabric. I think that a DNP would be easy also and fast. good luck. but find a fabric that speaks to you because if it doesn't you wont get it done in time.

Ideas for quilts just pop into my head all the time. I write/sketch them out in my notebook. If you did that, then found yourself getting stuck for an idea, you could browse your notebook and have all kinds of ideas to pick from!
In this situation, if it were me, I'd just wander the fabric store until I saw "The Fabric". Then it will tell you what to do with it! :)
