    A lot of folks do this. You can use a small quilt on top, turn it on the diagonal if you choose. Also, there are lots of books out there on bed runners.

    You might want to look at Walmart for a cream or white quilt. They have them at mine and they are pretty nice.

    excellent idea. ..... and here is a tip for handling king size quilts. i make them in strips, about 18" wide. They are easy to piece, hand quilt, or machine quilt. When all 6 strips are done,I flip back the batting and backing on the edge and stitch them together and hand stitch the backing shut. Wa lah, its like making 6 bed skirts. easy peasy, and then I have 1 king size quilt. ....not to stop you from your wonderful Idea....... just another choice.

    I have a white spread and change the quilts for a different look. It works well for me.

    I do it too. I got a neutral quilt/coverlet at Target and change out my quilts on top when the mood strikes.
