That's a great idea! I have never used a homemade quilt on my kingsized bed because I have a large dog who shares it with us and I don't want his claws to put holes in a handmade quilt. It never occurred to me to just make one to put over a neutral store-bought bedspread so I could remove it easily at night for my dog, but still enjoy having it on display during the day when the bed is made up. Brilliant!

What a great idea!!!!!!!! I've been procrastinating making a new dust ruffle and curtains just for a change.

What a "DUH" moment you've all given me. Just goes to prove that all great minds don't always think alike.........

I just washed my matelassé spread, an off white I've had for awhile. I wanted to change out my bed since we repainted the bedroom. It looks grey but is called almond mist or something. Am anxious to get the sewing room finished so I can decide on the quilt I want for our bed. Also have my eye on couple chenille spreads at Bed Bath & Beyond. My cousin uses bed runners on her pillows across the top of the bed instead of shams also

I have a coverlet, but it has some sort of poly in it or poly batting and it is too warm cause it doesn't breath so I'm doing a simple Irish chain in a king size, but it will not go with my bedroom. Guess I still need a neutral something.

A friend did this to showcase her square quilts that were too small for the bed. She would put it on the diagonal (diamond shape). It really was showy. GREAT IDEA

Good idea, and I've seen a square quilt put on the diagonal on top of the sheet. Great for smaller quilts on larger beds!

I think it is a brilliant idea, because you would have the advantage of changing the look of your bedroom just by adding different quilts. I'd say go for it.

I have a white whole cloth quilt that my mother had made about 50-55 years ago. It still looks brand new and is a king size bedspread. I love it and am able to change the colors out with a new quilt on the end of the bed. It doesn't even have to be a full size quilt, just wide enough to put at the end of the bed and they have just enough color to change the room.
