Mine was a Brother, which I bought at Woolco when I was 21. Took classes on how to make garments and made my dresses for work. I was one of a very few "working mother" in the early 60s. Still have it and it still works.

My mother and grandma bought me a new sewing machine (brother) for my wedding shower, (I was 17) and my grandpa took an old cabinet and redid it to fit my new machine in it. That will be 33 years ago in June. I still have that machine. I did minor sewing at that time, some clothes...and mostly patching/repairing. Until our first baby came along a few years later, and he was a premmie..so it came in handy to make weeeee little clothes.

My first sewing machine was a Pfaff that was bought used. It was one of the older models that had all metal working parts and was extremely heavy when trying to lift it. I was about 10 when my parents got me this machine. However, I first started sewing 47 years ago on my mothers old Singer. My first project was a summer nightie for myself and then I graduated into pillowcases and aprons. I haven't stopped sewing since then. I have become addicted to the craft and have made several winter coats, wedding dresses and a tailored and fully lined wool ensemble for a lady that I used to work with. Now I am sewing shirts for hubby and nephew as well as great niece and a new baby due in august. Jeanniebelle

Mine was a Kennmore--I bought it on time when I was a freshman or sophomore at college. I got a "fancy" Singer in 1957--as an Extension Agent we were able to get the machines at almost 50% off. I used it for 20 years or so then got my first Bernina.

I won a certificate for $100, off on a Pfaff in a cabinet , I had to pay an additional $150 for an up grade to a zigzag. This was in the mid 60's and I was 25 YO. I had hated sewing in the 7 and 8th grades when we had to take one semester each year. I still have that machine and will keep it forever!! I now have a Bernina.

Mine was a Kenmore I got about 12. I had shared my mom's Elna for several years before that.

I used a treadle Singer a little but my parents bought a White when I was 9, when I started 4-H sewing.

I learned to sew on a Singer, starting at age 6. My very first machine was a Kenmore I purchased in the 70's and used until about 5 years ago.
