Whatcha gonna do?
I try to "learn" something new, or try something new in my quilting projects. As this year end approaches, I'm thinking of what I want to try for next year.
This year, I completed 1 quilt using the Hickory Hill "Hickory Nuts". They are machine-sewn, quilt as you go hexagons. It was for Project Linus and came out cute. It helps me use up those little batting scraps that I just can't throw away! I already have many cut out for the upcoming year, so I'll continue to make those.
For 2018........I'm thinking I Will finally tackle the "real" English Paper Piecing hexagons. By committing in writing on this board, it will make me accountable to myself! I have been dipping my toes into the water for a few years....so in 2018.....I'm jumping in! I've got the things I need to do it (fabric, templates, template punch, needles, etc.).
I'm already anticipating I'll be "bugging" Lynnie (she's got a few pictures out there) and has helped me with questions. So, Lynnie...be prepared!
Everyone else? Are you thinking of learning a new technique? Trying different color ways?
Whatcha gonna do?
P.S. If yours sounds like more fun than mine.........I might add that to my list for 2019!!!

Nora- I am making hexies and they are so addicting!! I've done EPP in the past but this year really got into it. For 2018 I am going to commit to a sampler quilt that I've been downloading the pages from Pieces of the Past. I know I won't get to it before the new year so it's a good goal for me.
I hope you enjoy EPP!!! Lynnie and I have had lots of pms back and forth It's fun!!!
PS. I get papers from Paper Pieces. Good prices and saves a lot of cutting.

Last year I bought some quilt kits and they’ve sat long enough. Two of them are made of Kaffe Fasset fabrics so the bright colors are going to be fabulous. I’m giving myself a break from going through my stash of fabrics and patterns and just do these kits. I think I have about 7-8 kits for queen size quilts, some are from 3 years ago.

Our quilt guild issued a challenge last year to get our UFOs completed. Secretly, so we didn't really know we were signing up for it! We listed and numbered 6 items we would like to finish in the coming year, and wrote them down exactly the same on two pieces of paper. Kept one and turned one in....we thought maybe for a drawing??? Noooo, president drew out one number and gave us 2 months to complete THAT challenge! Most didn't. I got all but one, but in fairness (Since I didn't know what the plan was) I hadn't really planned on finishing that one promptly. It required embroidery on many squares for a Vietnam Vet. I am still working on that one.
As a group we decided to do that again. All of us have UFOs in our plans, but we procrastinate. I plan of making sure I list 6 items that I WILL finish. The challenge is getting them done for a prize! That's what I'm gonna do!

I'm going to try all the things I said I was going to do for 2017!! Life really got in the way this year, unfortunately....Family illness, emergency cabin remodel, and a ton of "when it rains it pours". I will be lucky to just finish the few things I need by mid December. Plus one quilt ordered for Christmas! Need longer days!!

I want to work on my long arm skills and my feathers.
I'd also like to learn to paint fabric.
There are so many quilts I love the look of only to find out they require applique. Applique and I don't get along so well. So, I'll tentatively put that on my list of things I'd like to work on.

I have a few new patterns/rulers I bought and haven't used yet. I think I will "kit" them up myself and have them on the ready for when I don't have something planned. Like garment sewing for my niece and myself. Yes, I still enjoy making clothing.
I also have quilt kits I have bought and that are screaming at me to do up. I think if I address a name to them having to do with who they will be given to,and when, it will be a more urgent cause for me to make them.
And lastly, finish up my stack of quilt tops into quilts. They have waited to see day light long enough.

I hope you enjoy EPP hexies. I have made 3 queen size hexie quilts. Wedding gifts for Grandsons and their brides. All were 1 inch hexies. I printed and cut out the papers. Purchased ones would have been nice! I'm about hexied out for a while! Would like to know how you do your GAYG hexies. Sounds interesting. Do you have a photo of your Hickory Nuts quilt. I went to the site, but didn't find that particular quilt. Would love to see it. For 2018, I think I'll just focus on finishing up some of my many ufo's

I just bought a GO Big Electric and I am finding that there is a learning curve. So I want to master the cutter and learn to make many different quilts from just a few die.
I like trying to make complex looking quilts from fairly simple shapes.

I have done minimal applique so for 2018 I am going to do one of Esther Aliu's block of the month. She is offering three for the price of one and I will probably do the simplest one. She has revealed 2 of the 3. This is a link to http://estheraliu.blogspot.com/2017/...ys-2-of-3.html the 2nd one and I really love it, but there is an easier one coming out also
