Everyone thinks I'm crazy but I like to coordinate the backing to something on the front. At the quilting store, the women there normally say "It's just the back so who cares". Well if I am taking all that time, effort and money I really want the back to look like it goes with the front, maybe I am just being too picky lol!!!

the front of the quilt decides what the back will be. sometimes it is pieced, sometimes it is a whole pieced quilt; sometimes it is flannel, sometimes solid, sometimes a print...the top dictates what it needs to be

I try to coordinate the print on the back to some of the color on the q/top. Most of the time I use the busiest print to hide my transgressions. For large quilts I use 108" wide fabric from Joann's which I have since learned to launder before I use.

I totally agree with you about muslin... I use cotton fabric in the same color hues as the main color in the front and usually use either a tone on tone or a solid or something that reads as a solid...

I use flannel on all my quilts, even on the few duvets I've made.

I use a fabric that co-ordinates with the front. I like color on the back. I watch for sales so it is a little cheaper. Sometimes, I use the wide backing fabrics if it looks good with the front.

I use a coordinating print on the back. I am just getting into machine quilting and a print hides some of my boo boos!

I use a coordinating print. No muslin. On a scrappy tho, I'll piece the back to use up fabrics.

The first thought that popped into my head when I the saw this question was- cat hair. (Sorry) I try to use fabric from my stash. I piece different fabrics together and make colorful backs.

What, no cat hair on the FRONT of your quilts? That's where I keep most of mine...
