My daughter lives in Colorado - brrrrrrrr . When I make her a snuggle up quilt I back it with no pill fleece. She says it they are the most comfortable quilts ever.

I try to please the recipient. For grandbrats that means fleece or flannel backs. I do try to pick a color that coordinates, and will use sheets or throws if I find them in good shape. For non-fuzzy backs, I use sheets most of the time. I generally get sets at the thrift store and use the fitted as part of the front, so it matches the flat used as the backing. There is always plenty left over from the fitted for scrappy applications later too. For example, I just found a set of black, gray and white sheets to use for my one DGS who did not ask for a fleece back on his quilt. So woohoooooo, I'm all set for his. Well, except he wants kelly green with it, so I'll be looking for that for a while. LOL Why is all the kelly green I found at the thrift store in t-shirts instead of good quilty cotton fabric?

It depends on the style of the quilt... a lot of help huh? LOL
I have patchworked them, made them match in colors, and I have made them totally different from the front....

Same here. Just gives it a little "punch"

one thing I did find out - not to use a dark solid color for backing - it shows any stitching mistakes. I try to use a coordinating color with small design so from afar it looks like a solid.

I can't think of too many cotton shirts I've seen lately that have any kelly green in them. Mostly we've all been wearing sage, or olive, or a khaki-green.

I am not really picky about my backs. I do not make my quilts reversable. I usually make my solid and use the quilting for decoration
