What's the difference between bargello & quick trip quilts?
#1
I just got done (with a LOT of helps from my friends here!) picking out colors for my very first bargello quilt. I was reading through the new posts from today, and wandered into the quilt in a Day site, and watched Eleanor Burns Quick Trip series: http://quiltinaday.com/theater/3100/3101.html
I watched the first video, and noticed how similar it is to the new bargello pattern I plan on doing. Both do a tube piecing technique. I just wonder why one is called a bargello, and one quick trip?
Inquiring minds are curious...

To me, the bargello has a waving effect and the trip around the world is a diagonal set of squares around the center block...sometimes the square seams are offset, sometimes not. The seams on E. Burns quick trip quilts, they offset.

All bargellos are not made out of different sized strips, it is the type of up and down design that makes it a bargello. Some are made from square blocks off set, others with a rectangular shaped strip.
Over the years it has evolved quite a bit from the needle work designs it originated from :D:D:D

given the way Eleanor pieces and sews the Trip around the World, there is a great deal of overlap between the two. The real difference is the pattern. the bargello can be put together in many ways, depending on the size you cut from the strata unit. Marilyn Doheny and Marge Edie have good bargello books. Also, quiltuniversity.com offers a class on bargello.
