I know this type of fabric use to be around a lot. I remember seeing it when I was a girl. It was a heavy fabric then. Like homespun weave but thicker.

A word of caution about Kaffe Fasset shot cotton, it is extremely thin. I could literally read through it. I was considering using it until I personally saw how thin it was. And I did not see anything shimmery about it.

I've seen a few bloggers posting about using them in their quilts, but honestly had no clue what the deal was. Many of the blogs I follow lean more toward the modern quilting movement (although I'm a traditional quilter through and through), so I figure this is probably another current fabric movement we'll be seeing in the next few years.

    Thanks for everyone's input!

Shot cotton also seems to wrinkle more when washed & does not press out smooth again.

I have a bed quilt on the bed right now that has mostly large, regular quilting weight squares, some with shot cotton borders on the top, and a shot cotton backing. The quilt is a perfect weight for summer use. It was from a KF pattern in a book. I have also used his stripes making a pattern for the top of a quilt, but quilting weight cotton on the backing to give it more weight. Am happy to snuggle under both quilts. You can tell from this I love his fabric and his patterns.
